چکیده
Research on discriminating behavior against ethnic minorities in everyday situations is still a rather under-researched field, since most prior research discrimination focuses housing markets, job criminal justice, institutions or discourses. This article contributes toward filling the research-gap by bringing together from sociology and social-psychology, including threat competition theories integration research, social identity theory, particularism-universalism theory experimental findings fairness norms. It conceptually advances field combining them into an integrated interdisciplinary approach that can examine situations. studies dynamics of ingroup-outgroup relationships, norms regard to negative others (e.g., neighbor). In particular, it focusses under which more likely outgroup-person than ingroup-person (i.e., behavior). To scrutinize expectations derived within this framework, factorial survey experiment was designed, implemented analyzed (by means multilevel mixed-effects linear regressions average marginal effects). The presents hypothetical scenario between two neighbors order measure effects behavior. While no significant outgroup-effect be found general analysis main effects, in-depth analyses show interplay situational cues: Outgroup-discriminating becomes significantly when “actor” has low and/or threat-level situation low. These results foreground importance for understanding conditions takes place situations—and deriving measures reduce discrimination.

The authors extend previous research on the effects of metastereotype activation on outgroup helping by examining in more detail the role of group impression management motives and by studying direct helping (i.e., helping the outgroup believed to hold a negative view of the ingroup). Data from three experiments provided full support for the communicative nature of direct outgroup helping by de...

متن کاملIngroup/outgroup membership modulates fairness consideration: neural signatures from ERPs and EEG oscillations
Previous studies have shown that ingroup/outgroup membership influences individual's fairness considerations. However, it is not clear yet how group membership influences brain activity when a recipient evaluates the fairness of asset distribution. In this study, subjects participated as recipients in an Ultimatum Game with alleged members of both an experimentally induced ingroup and outgroup....

It was predicted that such outgroup behavior causes anger in the observer, dependent on the categorization of the victims as part of its own group or as part of another group. Participants were primed with info...
متن کاملRecognition of faces of ingroup and outgroup children and adults.
People are often more accurate in recognizing faces of ingroup members than in recognizing faces of outgroup members. Although own-group biases in face recognition are well established among adults, less attention has been given to such biases among children. This is surprising considering how often children give testimony in criminal and civil cases. In the current two studies, Euro-Canadian c...
